Pair Chinese Silver-Plated Copper Dragon Vases, Phoenix Relief, Late Qing 19thC

$899.00

Exceptional pair of Chinese silver-plated copper vases, each meticulously cast and chased in bold high relief. The necks are encircled by ascending three-dimensional dragons, their sinuous bodies rendered with lifelike scales and feathered wings as they rise toward one another. The baluster bodies feature elaborately repoussé phoenixes amid prunus blossoms, symbolic of virtue and marital harmony, set against a repeating pattern of shou (longevity) medallions.

The surface exhibits a soft silver patina with gentle oxidation, characteristic of true antique silver plate over copper. The interiors and undersides reveal the underlying copper alloy base, confirming late-Qing construction methods. Each vase bears an apocryphal six-character Qianlong mark impressed in seal script, consistent with imperial-revival decorative arts circa 1880-1900.

These vases exemplify the opulent metal artistry of the late Qing dynasty, where traditional bronze and silver techniques merged to create sumptuous export and courtly display pieces.
