Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Figural Floral Bowl, Late Qing, 12” Tobacco Leaf

$888.00

A finely made Chinese export porcelain bowl, decorated in the famille rose palette and dating to the Late Qing Dynasty to Early Republic period, circa 1890-1930. The generously proportioned form measures 12 inches in diameter and 5.5 inches in height, offering strong decorative presence and balanced proportions.

The bowl is decorated using transfer-printed outlines with hand-applied enamel and gilt, a technique widely employed for higher-quality export wares in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The exterior features a graceful figural scene of a figure set among flowering plants, while the surrounding surface is enriched with scrolling blossoms and foliage rendered in pinks, greens, turquoise, cobalt blue, and warm gilt accents.

The interior is densely decorated with a floral composition encircling a central medallion, with layered leaves and blossoms outlined in gold. The consistent linework and evenly applied color reflect the hybrid production method typical of the period, combining printed design with skilled hand finishing.

The bowl rests on a neatly finished foot ring with a cobalt blue band and retains a smooth, luminous glaze. Light surface wear, minor enamel softness, and gentle gilt fading are present, consistent with age and normal use. No cracks or restorations observed.

This piece works beautifully as a decorative centerpiece, display bowl, or cachepot, and suits Asian-inspired, traditional, or eclectic interiors. Comparable examples are held in private collections of Chinese export porcelain and decorative arts.
