Antique Weller Baldin Apple Pottery Lamp Base

Antique Weller Baldin Apple Pottery Lamp Base

$250.00

Offered here is a rare and beautifully documented example of Weller Pottery's "Baldin" Apple pattern, produced in Zanesville, Ohio, during the early 20th century.

This sculptural ceramic vase was later converted to an electric lamp, a popular practice during the 1920s as homes modernized.

The lamp features Weller's classic raised apple-and-leaf relief over a rich cobalt blue glaze — a less-common variation within the Baldin line.

The underside bears a handwritten inscription reading:

"Mrs. Cook - Dec. 3 / 1925 - Raining Hard."

This charming note likely records the date of conversion or ownership, lending the piece a wonderful personal provenance.

Historical weather records indicate that an East Coast storm system passed near New Jersey on December 3, 1925, bringing periods of rain to the region to which this piece was acquired — consistent with the inscription and providing a vivid, authentic link between the pottery and its moment in time.

A partial impressed "WELLER" mark is visible near the drilled wiring hole, confirming its authenticity as a genuine Weller Pottery creation.

Condition Report:

Partial impressed "WELLER" mark clearly visible near wiring hole.

Large rim loss at the top (see photos).

Surface crazing throughout consistent with vintage Weller glaze.

Metal hardware retains aged patina; original wiring tested and works!— however, rewiring recommended for safety.

Displays beautifully despite defect & wear; excellent glaze depth and color retention.
